My thesis is that with good intentions, we all sometimes make terrible mistakes. This group of believers was not perfect as pointed out in this poem. But one can find similar atrocities committed by virtually every religious group and cultural group.

If someone was not well liked in the village then he or she was accused of witchcraft. People that are the outcast of the village were the main targets. The girls continue this charade until the end if the book. Blaming multitudes of innocent people of witchcraft all for revenge.

Abby is the leader of the group of girls and she uses her influence to convince the court that Elizabeth Procter is a witch. The village began to suspect that witchcraft was culpable for these events. Most people today would find what happened in Salem, as a result, to be terribly unjust.
