Second, hand each student a hockey stick. Third, set a time limit and challenge the students to see how many gates they can dribble their puck through during a predetermined time. Have them use hockey pucks, then coated-foam balls, and then whiffle balls.
Check out a video example by Craig Bleess! Gatekeepers pic. Gate Keepers is an extension of Gates. Keep the setup the same, but now have half of the class become goalies and protect the gates goals. Set a time limited and allow them to see how many goals they can make until the time is up.
Then have the students switch roles. Again, start with hockey pucks, then coated-foam balls, and then whiffle balls. This activity is an excellent hockey activity to practice stick handling and dribbling. Then have a few students put their pucks away so they can be the pirates. The goal is to end the game without becoming a pirate. Again, have them use a hockey puck, then a coated-foam ball, and then a whiffle ball. Checkout this video example from Traci Behnke! This hockey activity is a fantastic way to have students practice their puck dribbling, striking, and passing skills.
First, set-up 4 M formations using poly spots. I usually have one M formation set up in each quadrant of my gym. Then divide your class into 4 equal groups. Have the students work through the M shaped pattern on the gym floor using their hockey passing skills.
The students will pass and then follow their pass to the next poly spot. It will take 4 passes until they get to the end of the M shaped formation. When this happens, they will attempt a shot on the goal at the end of the pattern. When choosing the best floor for indoor hockey pitches, hockey centres, hockey halls or multi purpose sports halls you need a hardwood sports floor that allows players to perform at their best, it has to be safe easy to maintain and long lasting.
Hockey players ask a lot from the floor. They must be able to trust it to have the right level of slip resistance so they have complete control as they move fast around the court. Safety is important too. An indoor sprung hockey floor must be shock absorbing to protect the players from impact injuries and falls.
The right level of shock absorption enables players to perform at their best. Hockey is a fast game therefore the indoor hockey floor must have a uniform colour so the hockey court lines can easily be seen. Junckers 22mm solid hardwood sports floors are ideal; they are available in a choice of grades, selected for uniformity of colour. Indoor hockey sticks will not scratch or scuff the surface of a Junckers sports floor. The lacquered finish is extremely durable and easy to maintain.
Modern non marking skate wheels used indoors will not damage or scuff the floor surface, and the lacquer used on Junckers wooden floors has the perfect level of friction for indoor hockey trainers or skates. Compared with point elastic polyurethane and cushioned vinyl floors a solid hardwood floor offers very low rolling resistance; a characteristic that is and is strongly preferred by skaters.
Junckers offers a range of solid hardwood indoor hockey floor systems, recommended for all levels of play, from grass roots to elite level. SylvaSport and Sylvaket solid beech floors are the ideal choice, selected for their uniformity of colour, superior strength, durability and longevity.
Penalties for illegal actions are enforced. A player committing a major infraction is required to sit out of the game for two minutes, resulting a power play, but a minor infraction may result in a free hit. The first organized indoor floor Hockey games took place in Battle Creek, Michigan, in Tim Harter, director of Civic Recreation in Battle Creek, Michigan, introduced the new game of floor Hockey rules modified from the original game of ice Hockey.
Phil Carlson , Minneapolis, MN came up with the very first plastic sticks, his cousin Clinton came up with the ball. Tim Harter in Battle Creek, Michigan helped him to design the game.
